"When the Frost is on the Pumpkin"

Here we are at the end of October already. There are pumpkins on every front porch. The days are getting shorter and the nights cooler.  One morning we will wake up to the wonder of the first frost.  We will walk outside and our footprints will dot the wet sidewalk.  The soon dormant grass will glitter and the leaves of the cascading vines will drip shiny tears as if saddened by the coming winter.  I love these autumn days!  Cool and crisp clean air, the brown haze of the summer heat gone from the now bluer than blue skies.  This is a time to think about the year that is fast coming to a close.  Doesn't nature always reflect the seasons of our life?

Cherish Memory Box

Just sold this on etsy.   Thought you would like to see how I upcycled an old jewelry box.  This was a furniture store giveaway in the early 40's and 50's. When you purchased a Lane Cedar Chest, they would give away this miniature version as a jewelry box or letter holder.  I updated this one by painting it white and distressing it heavily.  A coat of wax came next.  Then the 2 wooden appliques were added stained and highlighted with aqua paint. The metal cherish plate was then applied and the key was updated with a jute tassel. Inside was decoupaged with vintage style music scrapbook paper. Thought it turned out cute and thought if I run across one of these again, I'd like to do another one.  Simple process.  You would enjoy it.

Your Word

Lord, fill me with Your Word  today. The hunger overwhelms me! Give me the strength to be a help to others.   I cannot do this by myself.

Pansy Update

Finally, after a really long and insufferably hot summer, we have a cold and rainy day.  Walked outside for a bit and admired the pansies.  They are alive and well, despite Zorro the roadrunner's best efforts.  After eating all the blooms a few weeks ago, I guess he moved on to greener or, should I say, yellow, burgundy, purple and white pastures.  The blooms have returned with a vengeance and are loving the rain.  Hang in there pansies because you never know what life is going to throw at you!

My Beautiful Madison

Seems like just yesterday she was riding in the shopping cart at the "doorsy door" as she called the grocery store.  Now she is making plans for her first homecoming dance.  Where has the time gone?

Harvest Time

Finally learning how to use my photo editing software!  About time,  I've only had it 4 years!  I knew I'd get around to it eventually.  Sort of like it!

A New Day!

"The Lord's lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning;  Great is Thy faithfulness."  Lamentations 3: 22,23

Please Don't Eat The Pansies!

I spent one glorious fall afternoon with my friend Sue at the nursery the other day.  Pansies as far as you could see.  Every color you could imagine.  Had to have some......Pansies have always fascinated me for their tenacity in the face of a cold winter.  They can be frozen solid one day and warm and beautiful  the next.  Reminds me of my heart and how I can feel so cold and lifeless one day and warm and fuzzy the next.  Shouldn't we be like the pansies and strain toward the Son and His glory every day ? Anyway, I digress.......brought 2 flats of pansies home and planted them.  Got up the next morning expecting to be greeted by colorful blooms.  Half of them were gone, cut off at the base of the flower, plants undisturbed.  Dumfounded, I scoured all information on the internet for an answer and came up with none.  Two days later I found the pansy thief staring at me through the back window.  A roadrunner of all things giving me the evil eye.  Roadrunners can't be in the city can they?  Yet there he was looking at me looking at him........Where was Cooper, my ferocious bird dog?  Looking out the window and growling.  When I opened the door the Coops ran off to the bedroom. (Guess he didn't know it was a bird)  As I rushed  out to check the damage , the roadrunner ran off, scurrying under the fence.  Think I heard a "Beep, Beep" as he left.  Wonder if I should call in Wile E. Coyote?  In the midst of the bare plants, I found his calling card, one lone feather.  Think I'll name him "Zorro"!

The Art of Wishful Thinking

I sit out on my deck surveying my little backyard.  Not imposing, but lovely and peaceful.  Cooper(more about him later) is with me.  Wonder if a dog is capable of wishful thinking. I know I am.  I tend to do a lot of it.  I guess that is one of the perks of growing older.  One has more time to think of things that could have been or should have been.  Obviously the latter doesn't apply, because if things aren't, then doesn't it follow that they should not have been?  This is my first post and Lord willing, more will follow. I love vintage everything!  If not vintage, my motto is make it look that way.  I hope to share my love of old, rustic, shabby chic, French country, and farmhouse with you.  Let's take the journey together.
